On 7/8/09 at approximately 0530,Ofc. Brian Kiel and his K9 DaSilva responded to a residential area of Milton, GA, for a report of a burglary. Two unidentified males had broken into a residence and stolen a television. The homeowner had caught the suspects in the act and gave chase but lost them.
Upon arrival, Ofc. Kiel deployed DaSilva in the area the suspects had last been seen running. DaSilva picked up the suspects odor and began to trail. DaSilva trailed the suspect(s) through two back yards separated by two fences and alerted on a wooded area behind another fence by jumping and barking. Ofc. Kiel made a K9 announcement ordering the suspect(s) to come out but he was met with no response.
DaSilva leaped the 6’ fence and immediately located one of the two suspects and engaged him. The suspect attempted to fight with DaSilva to no avail and was quickly subdued and handcuffed.
Ofc. Kiel reports that DaSilva is 6 for 11 on suspects of criminal cases and 1 for 1 on missing persons! Great job and the beginnings of an excellent record!!!
